A vacation isn’t always what it seems as work life somehow finds its way to nudge in while you sip on a mojito at the beach. And that’s life, unfortunately, but it’s not as bad as it sounds once getting into the groove of being productive, organized and feeling like a million bucks.
Los Angeles-based reporter Adam Popescu reveals in this article the variety of techniques people use to get work done while abroad. Being productive in remote areas can sometimes be hindered with the lack of technological services, but that’s when your little bag of backup supplies and knowledge will come in handy. Ensure that you’re equipped with essential electronics such as extra batteries and hard drives, reliable Wi-Fi connection and of course a good night’s rest.
Most of these tips to increase work productivity can seem obvious but don’t underestimate it, as it can be a lifesaver at the end of the day.
Take advantage:
Be productive when there’s available time. Plans will be thrown off track and that’s the best time to find another route to stay on top of it all. Once arriving to areas providing Wi-Fi, save the address so you’ll have reliable connection to do work if you’re stuck in a delay of some sort; an hour’s worth of work is better than none.
You may not encounter delays but if you’re traveling halfway around the world be ready to put up with jet lag. Don’t fight it. Forget counting sheep and get work done because you’ll wake up feeling more accomplished. Also, reduce the amount of time you spend searching for misplaced items by keeping an organized file.
Essential Devices:
Carry backup batteries for your laptop and phones because it’ll save your arse in times of dire need. May god be with you if you’re in a remote area scrounging for an outlet. Even if you manage to find one it’s probably built with a different plug-in so remember to pack a universal converter.
It’s crucial to store work and important information in an alternative spot other than the laptop. Theft, damages and the possibility of spilling that mojito on your device may happen so take extra precautions. It takes minimal time to save important data so do yourself a favour or else it could be one ugly picture. I recommend investing in a sturdy hard drive that’s easy to carry with ample storage.
Love Your Body:
Try to do something active and get into a routine. For starters, working out or going for a run in the morning is a great idea. You’ll be surprised how refreshing it’ll make you feel throughout the day. And remember, your body won’t function as well as it can be without enough sleep. Hit the sack at a reasonable time and come to work energized, attentive and ready to do more than what’s expected.
Every once in a while taking a break is helpful. It’ll give your pulsating brain a moment to rest while regenerating new and fresh ideas. Take a rest every two hours instead of plowing through your work with one long break. Get some fresh air, grab a drink or do what needs to be done and your body will thank you.
