Getting started
Getting started
Your number is already live. It started ringing the moment you finished the signup form. What follows turns it into a line you actually work from. None of it involves buying anything or waiting for anyone.
Did someone else set up your company's phone system and add you to it? This page is not for you. Start at You've been given a Slingshot line.
About 20 minutes, three steps. Have these ready: your welcome email and your phone.
The link in your welcome email signs you in. There is no password to set and nothing to fill in. Open it on the phone or computer you want to use. See Signing in.
The dashboard is where your number, your people and your settings live. It is the same dashboard on a computer or on your phone.
Put the line on your phone
This is the step people get stuck on, so it is worth reading before you start rather than during.
- Open the App page in the dashboard. There is a code on it.
- Point your phone's ordinary camera at the code, the one you take photos with, and tap the link that appears.
- A page opens. It gets you the app if you do not have it, and skips past that if you do.
- On an iPhone, tap Open when it asks to open "Softphone". On Android there is no question; the app opens by itself.
The app is called Cloud Softphone in the App Store and Google Play, and the iPhone calls it Softphone. Three names, one app. Searching the store for "Slingshot" will not find it, which is why the code installs it for you.
There is nothing to type in. No Cloud ID, no username, no password.
Got a red error? The code was scanned from inside an app. Use your phone's ordinary camera instead.
Asking for a Cloud ID? The app was opened the wrong way round. Close it and scan the same code again with your camera.
Asked to make it your default calling app? You can skip that. For a business line on a personal phone the answer is usually no: it would send calls you dial from your own contacts out over the business number.
Once the line is connected, make a call out. That is the fastest way to know everything worked. See Making your first call.
Add the people who answer
People are extensions. Each person gets their own, and each connects their own phone the same way you just did, with their own code from the App page.
Your plan sets how many. Starter covers a small team; Pro removes the limit. If adding someone moves you up a plan, the dashboard tells you at that moment and names the price before anything changes. See Why am I on Pro?.
If more than one person should answer the same number, put them in a department and every phone in it rings at once. See Departments.
