Slingshot

Slingshot vs Grasshopper

A Grasshopper alternative. Built for a team, not an inbox.

Grasshopper gives a business one number and a shared inbox, priced per account. Slingshot gives every person an extension on the business line, priced per person, with desk phones on Pro. Here is how they compare, with Grasshopper's prices as they publish them.

The short version

One shares an inbox. One gives everyone a place on the line.

Pick Slingshot if each person needs their own place on the line

On Slingshot every person has an extension on the business line, departments ring their own people at once, and desk phones work on Pro. Grasshopper is built around one shared inbox with a set number of extensions per plan.

Pick Grasshopper if a bigger team shares one number on a budget

Grasshopper prices per account, not per person, so a larger team that shares one number and a handful of extensions can pay less than it would with us. Do the sum with your real headcount before you decide.

Pick Slingshot if callers should hear a menu from day one

A greeting that routes callers comes with every Slingshot plan, including Starter. On Grasshopper it starts on Solo Plus, one step above its entry plan.

Who you would be switching to

A shared inbox is a good start. A team needs a line.

Grasshopper is clear about what it is: a business number with a shared inbox, priced per account so the whole team can use it. For a small group that answers from one place, that is a fair deal, and on headcount alone it can beat us.

The phone is where a customer decides whether to trust you.

It changes when the team grows into roles. A caller should reach sales or service, the person who quoted the job should get their own voicemail, and the front desk may want a real handset. Slingshot is built that way from the start: every person has an extension on the business line, and each department rings its own people.

We have marked every row Grasshopper wins, including price for larger teams sharing one number. If that describes you, it may be the better buy, and we would rather you chose it knowing why.

Slingshot is built and run by dgNetrix Communications, a phone company since 2006, by people who have been in telecom since 1998. We know what the contract, the install and the paperwork cost, which is how we know none of it needs to be in your way.

Switching

Moving from Grasshopper.

Can I bring my Grasshopper number?

Yes. Start the transfer from your Slingshot dashboard and sign the authorisation on screen; it costs nothing. Grasshopper stays live until the number lands with us, so set up your greeting and departments here first and nothing changes for callers on the day it moves.

Why does Slingshot charge per person?

Because each person gets their own extension, voicemail and settings on the business line, and on Pro calling is unlimited for every one of them. Grasshopper's per-account price covers a shared setup instead. If your team really does share one inbox, their model can cost less, and the table says so.

Can I keep texting customers?

Grasshopper includes texting on every plan today. Ours is being built for Pro and is not live yet, so a business whose customers mostly send texts should hold off on switching until it is. We will publish the details on the day it ships.

Is Slingshot cheaper than Grasshopper?

For one to three people, usually yes: three people on Starter cost less than Solo Plus, though calls out are metered on Starter. For a bigger team sharing one number, Grasshopper's per-account price is often lower. Put in your real headcount and count the extensions you would need.

Be the business that picks up.

A real business number, on the phone already in your pocket, in the next few minutes.
